Jody is a Certified Crisis Responder and a Trauma Informed Peer Support mentor. She is a survivor of trauma and multiple suicide attempts. She was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada and spent the first 18 months of her life bouncing around the foster care system, where she experienced physical and sexual abuse and severe neglect. After her adoption, she spent much of her childhood to teenage years, surviving further sexual abuse by multiple perpetrators outside the home. She spent a great deal of time in a deep depression, but after the death of her Mother at the age of 19, Jody was determined to move on and start fresh. She continued on with her schooling and life and closed that chapter of the book, however, the depression and anxiety continued to build over the next 20 years until she finally had a breakdown, leading to the diagnoses of Borderline Personality Disorder and Major Depressive Disorder. This turning point was the beginning of her journey towards healing, through both therapy and medications, and helped guide her down the path of helping others. After taking a Trauma Recovery Coaching course a peer support course, and becoming a Certified Crisis Responder, Jody was inspired to put her knowledge and experience to use and work with other survivors, so she started Brave Wings Trauma Recovery Coaching, with the goal of helping other survivors work through their trauma through empathy, compassion and validation.
When not helping clients, Jody has a love for all animals and spends her spare time reading, writing and following her other passion, soccer (football).
